Birmingham Barons News Release

The Birmingham Barons couldn't figure out a way to keep Mobile off the score board Friday night and dropped a season-high third-straight game at Regions Park, 7-3.

The Barons scratched their way back into the game after allowing the BayBears to score in each of the first three innings. John Shelby added two RBI, one in the third and fifth inning to bring the Barons within a run at 3-2. But Mobile added four late runs, including three in the eighth to put the game out of reach for the Barons.

Charlie Shirek (2-2, 2.56) picked up the loss despite making a quality start. He went six innings and allowed just two earned runs (three total) on six hits.

CJ Retherford added two hits in his four at bats and Tyler Flowers hit his 12th home run of the season, a solo blast in the ninth inning that capped the scoring.

The loss - the Barons eighth in 12 games - gave the Barons their first series loss of the season.

The announced attendance of 10,593 was the Barons largest of the season.

Birmingham will travel to Montgomery Saturday for the start of a four-game series with the Biscuits. Justin Cassel (0-0, 3.86) will make his second start since rejoining the Barons last week. Montgomery will counter with Brandon Mann (4-4, 4.82). First pitch is set for 7:05 PM.
