Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

Jacksonville, Fla. - Starter Willie Glen pitched seven innings without allowing an earned run while Bryan Petersen recorded three hits, including his third homerun of the series, leading the Jacksonville Suns (43-39, 8-5) to a 5-3 victory over the Montgomery Biscuits (39-43, 6-6) in front of 8,986 Friday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Glen (2-7) picked up his first victory since April 16 by allowing three unearned runs over seven innings of work. Montgomery reliever Chris Mason (3-5) fell in the loss, giving up the go-ahead run in the seventh inning. Jay Voss (1) saved the game for the Suns, dealing two perfect innings with four strikeouts to close the game.

Montgomery took a third inning lead on back-to-back two-out singles. Fernando Cortez knocked in a pair of runs with a base hit before an infield hit from Matt Fields drove in the third run for a 3-0 lead. The runs were unearned because of an earlier error from Suns third baseman Lee Mitchell.

Jacksonville started to rally in the fourth inning when Kevin Randel belted a two-out, two-run homerun off Montgomery starter Jeremy Hellickson to cut the lead to 3-2. In the fifth inning, Bryan Petersen belted a solo homerun off Hellickson to tie the game 3-3.

The Suns gained the lead in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly from Lorenzo Scott to drive home Ryan Klosterman for a 4-3 lead. Jacksonville added a fifth run in the eighth inning on a Scott Cousins solo homerun for a 5-3 final.

The Suns will travel to Pearl, Miss. for a four-game series against the Mississippi Braves starting Saturday at 8:05 p.m. ET. Live radio coverage will be available on WFXJ-AM 930 and online at jaxsuns.com.
