GENEVA, IL - Behind outstanding pitching and great defense, the Peoria Chiefs snapped their two-game losing streak, beating the Kane County Cougars 3-1 Thursday night. The Chiefs are now 2-5 on the second half, 40-36 on the season and 1-2 in the series.

The Chiefs struck first in their half of the third inning. Ryan Flaherty led off the inning with a towering shot over the right-field wall for his tenth home run of the season to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. Josh Harrison would not be outdone and hit his own home run over the left-field wall in the fourth to add another run to the board and give the Chiefs a 2-0 advantage.

Peoria tacked on another run in the sixth inning against Cougars starter Anthony Capra. David Macias began the inning with a walk and advanced to second after the first out of the inning on a single by Josh Harrison. With Kyler Burke batting, a wild pitch by Capra advanced both runners. Macias was brought home on a sacrifice fly by Burke for his 39th RBI of the season to increase the Chiefs lead to 3-0.

The Cougars got one run back in the eighth against Chiefs reliever Alberto Cabrera. Chris Berroa began the inning with a single and with David Thomas batting stole second. Thomas struck out swinging and was thrown out at first with Berroa advancing to third. Carlos Arrieche singled to score Berroa and cut the Chiefs lead to 3-1. Chris Huseby came on in the ninth and gave up a two-out single but struck out Dusty Napoleon to end the game.

Chris Archer (3-2) was outstanding through his five innings of work, not giving up a run on three hits. The right-hander walked only one while striking out four. Cabrera came on in relief and gave up one run on three hits while walking one and striking out three. Huseby earned his eighth save of the season giving up one hit while striking out two in the ninth.
