
Former Hillcats Chosen for Futures Game

Former Hillcats Pedro Alvarez and Brad Lincoln have been selected to play for Team USA in the MLB Futures Game at Busch Stadium in St. Louis on July 12. The U.S. team, composed of top American prospects will face the World team, comprised of top international prospects, in the contest.
Alvarez, 22, began his professional career in Lynchburg and played in 66 games with the Hillcats before being promoted after the final game of the season's first half on June 21. At the time of his promotion to Double-A Altoona, Alvarez was batting .247 and ranked second in the Carolina League in home runs with 14 and his 55 RBI was tops in the circuit.
Lincoln, 24, was a member of Lynchburg's starting rotation for the final six weeks of the 2008 season. In eight starts with the Hillcats, Lincoln posted a 1-5 record with a 4.75 ERA. Lincoln has thrived in 2009, compiling a 1-5 mark with a 2.28 ERA in 13 starts with Altoona before his recent promotion to Triple-A Indianapolis. Lincoln won his Triple-A debut with the Indians, allowing just one earned run in 6 and 2/3 innings in Indianapolis' 4-1 victory over Lehigh Valley June 24.
Alvarez and Lincoln join a select group of former Hillcat players who have been chosen for the Futures game since the event's inception in 1999. This group includes Yamid Haad (1999), Tony Alvarez (2002), Jose Castillo (2003), John Van Benschoten (2003), Bryan Bullington (2004), Jorge Cortes (2004), Jose Bautista (2005), Paul Maholm (2005), Josh Sharpless (2006), Neil Walker (2006), Serguey Linares (2007) and Steve Pearce (2007).
The Futures Game will take place at 2 p.m. July 12 as part of Major League Baseball's All-Star festivities at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
