McDonald Named PCL Pitcher of the Week
June 15, 2009 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Albuquerque Isotopes right-handed starter James McDonald has been named Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for games beginning on June 8 and continuing through June 14 thanks to a pair of outings in which he fanned a total of 23 batters.
In his first outing of the week on June 8 against Oklahoma City at Isotopes Park, McDonald allowed just one run on four hits in seven strong innings while walking two and striking out 10 before turning in a record-setting performance on June 14 in Round Rock. In seven shutout innings, the right-hander allowed just two hits while walking one and striking out a franchise-record 13, surpassing the previous mark of 12 set by Aaron Small in 2004 and equaled by Rick VandenHurk in 2007. Through his two outings, McDonald is also riding a streak of 13 straight innings in which he has not allowed a run while holding opposing batters to a .125 (6x48) batting average.
The native of Long Beach, California is the third Isotope to earn League recognition this season, joining Eric Milton, who was named Pitcher of the Week from April 20-26 and Mitch Jones, who claimed PCL Batter of the Week accolades for May 18-24.
The 'Topes are back in town this Thursday, June 18 for an eight-game homestand that includes a baseball card giveaway, Myron Noodleman appearance, and a very special Father's Day celebration, complete with BBQ apron giveaway, pre-game father/child catch, and a jersey auction benefitting prostate cancer awareness. Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.albuquerquebaseball.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
