Published on June 15, 2009 under Pacific Coast League (PCL1) News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Pacific Coast League today announced Jason Bourgeois of the Nashville Sounds has been named PCL Player of the Week and James McDonald of the Albuquerque Isotopes the PCL Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 8th -June 14th.

Bourgeois (pronounced "boor-ZHWAH"), a native of Houston, Texas is hitting .322 (69-for-214) with eight doubles, three triples, a homer, 24 RBI, and 32 runs scored in 56 games this year and has a current eight-game hitting streak. The outfielder's hot hitting helped Nashville win seven straight games this week and extend their PCL American Northern Division lead to five games over second place Iowa.

The hurler award is the first this season for McDonald. In his first start against Oklahoma City on June 8th he threw seven innings and allowed just one run on four hits and two walks while striking out ten RedHawks but did not factor in the decision. He followed that impressive start with another, this time against Round Rock on June 14th. The right-hander tossed seven scoreless innings and allowed just two hits and one walk to go along with 13 strikeouts. The Long Beach, California started the season with the Dodgers and went 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA in 10 games, four starts, before joining the Isotopes where he is now 1-0 with a 3.26 ERA in six starts.

Fans can vote online for their favorite PCL players to give them the chance to play in the 2009 Triple-A All-Star Game to be held July 15th in Portland, Oregon. All-Star ballots can be found on the official Pacific Coast League website (www.pclbaseball.com).
