
Kiely promoted to Arkansas, starts Monday

Righthanded pitcher Tim Kiely was promoted from Class A-Advanced Rancho Cucamonga (California) and will start tonight for Double-A Arkansas against the Springfield Cardinals. The Travelers had an open roster spot after placing reliever David Herndon on the disabled list Sunday.
Kiely, 23, was 5-5 with a 4.44 ERA in a dozen starts at Rancho Cucamonga, striking out 44 against eight walks in 73 innings. His monthly ERA has improved with each progressive month this year, from 5.01 in April to 4.42 in May and 3.46 in two June starts. The 6-foot-1 starter was a 27th-rounder in 2008 out of Trinity College (Hartford, Conn.). He made 21 relief appearances at Cedar Rapids (Midwest-Class A) last season, posting a 5-1 record and striking out 33 in 36 innings, while allowing a .255 batting average against.
