Kansas City Royals right-hander Robinson Tejeda, currently on the 15-day Major League disabled list as he recovers from right rotator cuff tendonitis, will be assigned to Northwest Arkansas on a Major League rehabilitation assignment.
Tejeda joins the club after a rehab stint at extended spring training at the Royals' complex in Surprise, AZ, and will be active beginning with Wednesday night's game and be with the Naturals throughout their upcoming eight-game homestand against the Arkansas Travelers and Tulsa Drillers.
A 27-year old resident of Bani, Dominican Republic, Tejeda was acquired by the Royals off of outright waivers from the Texas Rangers on June 24th, 2008. He quickly became one of Royals' skipper Trey Hillman's go-to set-up options in the bullpen, posting a 2-2 record and a 3.20 ERA, fanning 41 batters in 39 1/3 innings down the stretch for Kansas City. Originally signed in November 1998 by the Philadelphia Phillies, Tejeda has made 100 career major league appearances (47 starts) covering 317 innings and has a 16-19 record and a 4.66 ERA. Prior to his DL placement, he'd made 12 appearances this season and posted a 2.65 ERA, fanning 23 batters in 17 innings.
His last experience at the Double-A level came in 2004 with the Eastern League's Reading Phillies, where he was a teammate of former Natural Juan Richardson.
