Tulsa Drillers News Release

The Midland RockHounds used another quick start Monday night to complete a three-game sweep of the Tulsa Drillers. The first five Midland batters in the bottom of the first inning hit safely against Esmil Rogers as the RockHounds scored four times. The Drillers never recovered and were defeated 8-2.

Rogers entered Monday's game with a 2.56 ERA, the third best in the Texas League. But the RockHounds jumped on him early with six hits in the four-run first.

Chris Carter's 8th home run of the season to lead off the third inning increased Midland's lead to 5-0.

The Drillers broke through against Carlos Hernandez with single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings.

In the fourth, three singles from Mike McKenry, Ryan Harvey and Darin Holcomb plated Tulsa's first run. Cole Garner tripled and scored on a base hit by Daniel Mayora in the fifth to trim the RockHounds lead to 5-2.

It would be as close as Tulsa would get. A double by Matthew Sulentic scored Matthew Spencer, who had singled, to up the margin to 6-2 in the sixth.

Midland completed the scoring with a pair of runs against reliever Austin Chambliss in the bottom of the seventh.

The Drillers produced 11 hits, but they left 11 runners on base. Every Tulsa starter but Daniel Carte had at least one hit.

It was uncharacteristic outing for Rogers. He had allowed only four earned runs since April 29, but he surrendered six in only 5 2/3 innings Monday night. The runs came on 13 Midland hits and upped his ERA to 3.17.

Hernandez improved his record to a perfect 4-0 with the victory.

It was the final game in a six-game road trip for the Drillers. The loss left them with a 3-3 mark on the trip.

Despite the loss, the Drillers remained only two games behind first-place Springfield in the North Division standings.
