CHARLESTON, SC -- Local firefighters and police share jerseys for a day to show off their talent and join forces to raise money for Lowcountry children with birth defects and childhood diseases. Beginning at 1:15 pm on Sunday, June 7, Charleston's Finest will take on Charleston's Bravest in a charity softball game benefiting the Carolina Children's Charity (CCC) at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

Rob Feeters, a City of Charleston Investigator and two City of Charleston firefighters -- Bryan Bolick and Jimmy Evans -- joined forces to organize the 2nd Annual Charity Softball Game. Two dollars of every $5 ticket and $3 of every $7 ticket benefits the Carolina Children's Charity.

Tickets can be purchased until 2 pm on game day to benefit Carolina Children's Charity at http://cr1.glitnirticketing.com/crticket/web/logingroup.php Password is softball09. You must be able to print tickets as they are not available at the box office. Tickets purchased for the 1:15 game will also cover your admission to the 5:05 pm RiverDogs game.

Children will eat free (hot dog, soda, and chips) and free parking is available. Some of the fun activities include a jump castle, dunking booth, face painting, speed pitch and much more. Police vehicles and equipment will be on display along with fire trucks. CCC mascot Harry C. Bear along with Charlie T. RiverDog will be on hand. Souvenir t-shirts will be sold for $20 and CCC receives a portion of the proceeds.

Since its founding in 1987, Carolina Children's Charity has helped thousands of Lowcountry children fight the effects of birth defects and childhood diseases. Last year, more than $284,000 was provided to Lowcountry children to cover the costs of specialized equipment, diagnostic summer camps, medications, medical evaluation and testing, therapies and other life-saving and life-enhancing services. All items and or services requested must be deemed medically necessary or medically beneficial by the child's medical doctor.

Local firefighters and the community have been supporting CCC's mission for more than 22 years. This years' event is the first of many to raise funds for the special children of Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton and Dorchester counties.
