New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Portland, ME- Adam Calderone's pinch-hit, three-run home run in the top of the eighth inning gave the New Hampshire Fisher Cats a 3-2 lead over the Portland Sea Dogs, but Portland responded with eight runs in the home half of the eighth to earn a 10-3 victory in the rubber match of a three-game series on Thursday afternoon at Hadlock Field.

Calderone (1-for-1, HR, 3 RBI) ripped a 3-2 offering from Sea Dogs reliever Richie Lentz into the U.S. Cellular Pavilion in right for his fifth homer of the season, and only the second pinch-hit home run in franchise history. Brad Emaus (HBP) and Brian Dopirak (walk) scored on the long ball, which staked the Fisher Cats (22-19) to a short-lived 3-2 lead.

The floodgates opened in the bottom of the eighth when losing pitcher Edgar Estanga walked Lars Anderson, Aaron Bates (1-for-3, HBP, BB, R) and Jorge Jimenez (0-for-3, BB, R). Jon Still (2-for-4, 2 RBI) pulled a two-run single down the left field line, giving the Sea Dogs a 4-3 lead.

Leon Boyd came out of the New Hampshire bullpen and proceeded to walk Ryan Khoury (0-for-3, BB, R) and Zach Borowiak, the latter base-on-balls forcing in Jimenez for a 5-3 lead. Mark Wagner (2-for-5, 2 RBI, R) blooped a two-run single to center, Borowiak raced home on a wild pitch and Anderson (2-for-2, HR, 2B, 3 BB, 4 RBI) capped the inning by slamming his fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot over the wall in center, making it 10-3.

T.J. Large (1-0) notched the victory with 1.2 shutout innings of relief. The right-hander yielded one hit and struck out two.

Estanga (1-2) saw his ERA balloon from 0.60 to 2.93 after being charged with four runs on one hit and three walks in 1/3 of an inning.

Anderson broke up a scoreless tie in the fifth when he slapped a two-run double to right-centerfield off Fisher Cats' starter Randy Boone, plating Borowiak (2-for-3, BB, RBI, 2 R) and Bubba Bell (1-for-5, R), who both singled, for a 2-0 Portland lead.

The Fisher Cats return to Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Friday night to open a four-game series against the Trenton Thunder at 7:05pm.
