Defenders Win 7-3 & Series 2-1

NORWICH, CT- The Defenders (22-18) took their second straight home series Thursday morning from Binghamton with a 7-3 win in front of 5,304 screaming fans, the largest crowd of the season at Dodd Stadium thus far.

A four run sixth inning, capped off with an RBI single by RF-Eddy Martinez-Esteve completed the win in the rubber match.

Connecticut delivered the first run of the game in the third inning with a 3B-Brad Boyer RBI double just inside the third base bag to plate C-Jackson Williams who got hit by a pitch.

The Defenders added another run in the fourth with three consecutive hits, the final being an RBI double by Williams scoring 1B-Tyler LaTorre, Connecticut led 2-0.

CF-Mike Mooney single then 2B-Sharlon Schoop double with one out to kick-start the sixth inning. Brett Pill then ripped a pinch hit two RBI double off the wall followed by a Boyer RBI single. Martinez-Esteve then drove in Boyer with an RBI single of his own to give the Defenders a comfortable 7-0 advantage. Boyer finished the day going 4 for 5 with a pair of doubles, singles, runs scored and RBI.

Defender's starter, RHP-Henry Sosa (3-0) picked up his third win tossing an impressive six innings of five hit ball allowing one unearned run, walked one and struck out three.

Binghamton finally touched the scoreboard in the top of the sixth on a 1B-Lucas Duda sacrifice fly and added two more in the eighth with back to back RBI doubles by Petersen and Duda.

The B-Mets, RHP-Eric Brown (3-3) suffered the loss allowing five earned runs off of nine hits and struck out two in 5.1 innings of work.

Connecticut travels to Portland (Red Sox) Friday to begin a four game series and a seven game road-trip. The Defenders will return back home on Friday, May 29 when they welcome the Sea Dogs into town.
