Peoria Chiefs News Release
PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs have announced that right-handed pitcher Kevin Kreier has been activated off the seven-day disabled list. As a corresponding roster move, right-handed pitcher Josh Whitlock will be sent to extended spring training in Mesa, Arizona.
Kreier comes off the disabled list after pitching in nine games with the Chiefs in the first month of the season. He left the game in Lansing on May 6 with shoulder discomfort after throwing a perfect third inning which resulted in Kreier earning the win to improve to 3-1. In his full-time move to the bullpen, the second-year Chief is second in wins for the team and has also posted a solid 3.45 ERA in 15 2/3 innings. Kreier, out of Henderson, Nev., was a 20th round draft pick by the Cubs in the 2006 draft. In 2008, he pitched in 21 games and started 18 with Peoria and was 5-10 with a 4.42 ERA.
Whitlock, a 26th round pick in 2008, pitched in nine games for the Chiefs this season going 1-1 with an ERA of 6.19 before getting sent back to Mesa on Friday. Last season he spent the end of the year with the Chiefs, pitching in six games with four starts. Whitlock went 1-2 and posted a 5.66 ERA for Peoria in 2008.
The Chiefs will travel to Beloit for a four-game series with the Snappers beginning Saturday night at 6:30 pm with RH Chris Archer (1-0, 1.17) on the hill against Beloit RH Dan Berlind (1-2, 3.44). The Chiefs then return home Wednesday for a nine-game home stand, their longest of the season so far.
