Camden Riversharks News Release

CAMDEN, NJ - The Camden Riversharks announced today that they have agreed to terms with left handed pitcher Wayne Franklin for the 2009 season. Franklin was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1996, and then selected by the Houston Astros in the 1998 Rule 5 draft. He made his Major League debut with the Astros on July 24, 2000.

Franklin brings several years of major league experience with him to the Riversharks. As a member of the Houston Astros, he saw occasional spot duty out of the bullpen during the 2000, and 2001 seasons. He was then traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in 2002, where he made the transition from the bullpen to the starting rotation. Franklin's career highlight came in 2003, when he was a ten game winner for the Milwaulee Brewers.

In addition to his success at the major league level, Franklin is also an accomplished player in the Atlantic League. During the 2007 and 2008 seasons, he pitched for the York Revolution and compiled an overall record of 20 wins and 8 losses.

"Wayne will be a nice addition to our pitching staff," said Riversharks Manager, Joe Ferguson. "We need a good left handed arm in our bullpen, and he provides that. Also, his ability to work both out of the bullpen and as a starting pitcher gives us a lot of flexibility with how we use him," he added.

The Riversharks are currently in the midst of a four game series with the Bridgeport Bluefish, which will conclude on Thursday. Tickets can be purchased at www.riversharks.com, or by calling 1-866-SHARKS-9.
