Long Island Ducks News Release

(Central Islip, N.Y., May 6, 2009) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 4-2 on Wednesday at Citibank Park.

The Ducks got off to a fast start when Victor Rodriguez took the first pitch of the second inning and ripped it over the left field wall to give the Flock an early 1-0 lead.

In the third, Ray Navarrete's RBI double down the left field line scored Juan Francia to double the score to 2-0. Three hits in the fourth, including John Pachot's RBI single into left helped the Flock mount the lead to 3-0.

The ‘Stormers cut the lead with two runs in the top half of the fifth inning. RBI base hits by both Rodney Medina and Danny Bravo sliced the lead to one, at 3-2.

Ducks' starter Ken Ray (2-0) pitched well, tossing five innings, yielding just two runs and six hits. In the sixth, the Ducks bullpen staggered but did not fall as Ron Flores inherited a bases loaded two-out jam after Julio Manon walked three. Flores did his job inducing Rodney Medina to bounce back to the mound to end the inning.

The Ducks tacked on an insurance run in the seventh as Juan Francia led off the frame with a triple down the right field line and Ray Navarrete singled him in with a RBI base hit to left.

Joe Valentine and Billy Simas combined on two scoreless innings to close out the game, with Simas picking up his league leading sixth save.

The Ducks close out their homestand on Thursday night against the Lancaster Barnstormers. Game time is 6:35 p.m., and the Citibank Park gates open at 5:35 p.m. Randy Leek takes the mound for Long Island against Lancaster's Jason Scobie. Thursday is "Swine Flu Prevention Awareness Night," presented by Crosstex. The first 1,500 fans through the gate will receive hand sanitizer, while Crosstex will have a table set up on the ballpark concourse to provide fans with educational materials and information regarding the prevention and awareness of swine flu and other forms of influenza. Fans unable to attend can tune into all the action online at www.liducks.com, with Mike Solano calling the play-by-play.
