Christmas Comes Early For Rebels Baseball Team

Florence Y'alls News Release

FLORENCE, KY - The Florence Freedom are doing all they can to make sure as much baseball can be played even before their regular season starts.

Recently, they Freedom donated their infield and bullpen tarps to Boone County High School to help the Rebels avoid as many rainouts as possible.

"We were happy to do it," Freedom owner Clint Brown said. "We realize we're a member of this community and when we can help support one of the local high schools we're happy we can be a part of that."

The tarps have helped the Boone County Rebels save and add games to this spring's home schedule.

"The Rebels have not had a game rained out yet," Boone County Athletic Director Jon Smith said. "We've actually had two away games that otherwise couldn't be played be moved to Boone."

The professional baseball team will no longer have a need for a tarp because the city of Florence is installing artificial ‘Field Turf' this spring at Champion Window Field.

"The tarps are expensive and schools do not have money for this type of expense," Smith said. "This is giving a lot of young men in our community the chance to play ball especially in this rainy spring."

Boone County High School is very appreciative for what the Freedom, the city of Florence and the community has done to help preserve some of their games.

"Myself and head baseball coach Wayne Huff are very grateful to the Freedom for this opportunity," Smith said. "Duke Energy was also very gracious in this community partnership in providing the resources for this tarp to be moved."

In addition to the tarps, the Freedom are donating warning track brick dust for Boone County's future use on their field.

The Freedom open their home season on May 20 with a day game at 11:05 a.m. All Freedom tickets are under $10 and include free parking. For ticket purchasing information, call the Freedom at (859) 594-HITS or visit FlorenceFreedom.com.
