Fairbanks Grizzlies News Release
Fairbanks, AK. 2.09.09. Ricky Bertz, General Manager and owner of the Fairbanks Grizzlies, announced the signing of (5) players today adding depth and strength to a roster looking to improve upon last years performance. OL Ryan Pahua, OL/DL Andy Endemann , QB Justin Rummell, QB/WR Monte Purvis and RB Denny Kimmel.
Ryan Pahua is a 6'5" 350 Offensive lineman who brings size and experience to the line. Ryan is no stranger to Coach Ponder having played for him at Orange Coast Junior College and the Quad City Steamwheelers (af2). Ryan also played college football at Utah State and has played 2 years in the af2.
Coach Ponder
"If you're looking for size and talent he has it all"
"I've seen Ryan grow as a player every year, hopefully he doesn't grow too much at 6'5" 350lbs if he grows anymore we will have to special order his uniform"
Andy Endemann is a 6'3" 330lb Offensive and Defensive lineman has the ability to dominate either side of the ball. Andy also played for Coach Ponder in Quad City (af2). Andy played at New Mexico Highlands University and has 2 years of professional experience with Quad City and Tri Cities in the (af2). Andy has garnered attention from other leagues in the United States and in Europe, where he recently turned down an offer, so he could come play for the Grizzlies.
Coach Ponder
"I have no idea witch side of the ball to Play Andy at he is so good on both sides, I am sure Coach Deaton wants him on Defense and I know Coach Flanagan wants him on Offense, maybe we'll both coaches line up and duke it out and see who wants him more"
Justin Rummell 6'3" 215 Quarterback has been successful everywhere he has played. Justin played at Earlham College (2002-06) where he had an incredible 4 seasons, throwing for Conference records in yards with 9,390, completions with 789 and Touchdowns with 76. Justin was Named All-NCAC First Team and honored 7 times as Offensive player of the week. Justin completed his college career by throwing the winning touchdown in the East Coast Bowl, an invitation All-Star game for non Division I athletes. Finishing the game 11-17 for 123 yards with a touchdown and rushed 6 times for 17 yards. Justin was with the Detroit Lions in training camp and has 2 years of Pro experience in the (af2).
Coach Ponder
"Justin has tremendous talent and experience"
"He is a proven winner and leader and that's what I look for in a Quarterback"
Monte Purvis 6'0" 185, Quarterback out of Winston Salem University. Monte is an athletic Quarterback that has 4.4 speed and tons of athletic ability. Playing in a run first program at Winston Salem passing for 150 yards a game was good but looks forward to showing his arm off in Coach Ponders Pass Happy Offense in addition to possibly contributing to the team in other areas.
Coach Ponder
"He is so gifted as an athlete he could play QB or WR if he wanted, you may even see him returning some kick offs for us"
Denny Kimmel 5'10 215lb, Running Back out of Anderson University. There's not a lot of records Denny doesn't own from College, his single game records include carries with 38, yards with 283, receptions with 14, rushing touchdowns with 5, longest run from scrimmage 95 yards, 41 straight games with a reception and 8 straight games with 100 yards rushing. Denny finished his college career holding 26 single season and career records but none are as probably as impressive as his 6,427 all purpose yards and his 46 TD's. Kimmel has great feet and strength and isn't afraid to block anyone.
Coach Ponder
"Denny is the perfect RB for my type of offense, I know he can run, that's proven but he is a tremendous pass blocker, and his kick-off and return highlights tape is very impressive. I just have to see if he can return kicks in this type of game."
"Denny is more than a RB he has great hands and I have the ability to run some fun stuff with him in the line-up."
