Houston Aeros Earn 2-1 Victory Over Lake Erie with Late Goal

HOUSTON, Texas - Jason Ryznar tallied his second goal of the season for the Aeros with just under three minutes remaining to give Houston the 2-1 victory over the Lake Erie Monsters. Houston (20-17-1-7) now owns a 6-1 all-time record over the Monsters. The win moved the Aeros into second place in the West Division with four teams still within two points of Houston.
Houston opened the scoring at the 12:02 mark of the first period and hadn't allowed a Monsters' shot. Jesse Schultz took a centering feed from Corey Locke and one-timed it into the net for Schultz's 11th goal of the season. The points for Locke and Schultz each extended their respective scoring streaks to three games. Lake Erie finally registered a shot at the 13:30 mark of the period and finished with two shots in the opening frame. Houston held the 1-0 lead after one period and the two shots allowed tied a season low for the Aeros.
Neither team was able to score in the second period. Houston finished 0-for-2 on the power play while also being whistled for two penalties. The Aeros only allowed four shots in the second period for a two-period total of six, the fewest shots allowed through two periods this season. Lake Erie's four shots were recorded in the final four minutes of the period as the team didn't record a shot for the first 16:10 of the period.
Lake Erie tied the game at the 4:35 mark in the third period on a power-play goal by Justin Bowers. He scored his first goal of the season on assists from Derek Peltier and Darcy Campbell. Ryznar tallied his second goal of the season for the 2-1 go-ahead marker for the Aeros with 2:59 remaining on the clock. He stuffed the puck in the net when the Aeros had an extra attacker for a delayed penalty. Tomas Mojzis and Brandon Rogers set the play up with a cross-ice pass just in front of the crease. Houston's wasn't safe just yet when the Monsters nearly tied things up with 10 seconds left on the clock when they had an extra attacker of their own. Schaefer knocked the puck away and held the puck to finish with the 2-1 victory.
