Richie Hall Named Head Coach of the Edmonton Eskimos

Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimos today announced that Richie Hall is the club's new head coach.

Eskimo General Manager and Director of Football Operations Danny Maciocia says "Having coached against him for many years, I have long admired Richie's abilities. He brings an outstanding reputation as both a coach and person and someone I firmly believe is an excellent fit for the Eskimo organization".

A four time CFL West Division All-Star defensive back during his nine years with Calgary (1983 - '87) and Saskatchewan (1988 - '91), Hall made a successful transition to coaching ranks in 1993 with the ‘Riders. He spent the last 15 seasons on the Saskatchewan staff, the past eight as defensive coordinator. Under Hall's leadership, Saskatchewan consistently ranked among the CFL's best in several key defensive categories. The native of San Antonio, Texas (born: October 4, 1960), Hall was a standout at Colorado State University.

Coach Hall says "I am tremendously excited to join the Edmonton Eskimos, an organization with a rich and successful history. There is an excellent nucleus of talent here and I'm looking forward to the challenges ahead".

Both as a player and coach, Hall has taken a leading role in the community. In 1990, he won the prestigious Tom Pate Award which honours a CFL player for their dedication to the community and the league.
