Adirondack Phantoms News Release

WILKES-BARRE, PA - Claude Giroux scored twice and Scott Munroe made 28 saves to power the Phantoms to a 4-1 win tonight over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-Barre. The win was the third straight for both Munroe and the Phantoms, giving them a perfect record on their three-game in three-night weekend.

The Penguins struck first on the power play 6:46 into the game. Jeff Taffe was on the left boards and got past a pair of Phantoms before firing it in front to Connor James, who was able to beat Munroe with a wrister for the 1-0 lead.

But it was all Phantoms from that point. Philadelphia got the goal back at the 8:54 mark on just its second shot of the period. Boyd Kane pulled a puck free of a scrum on the end boards and tossed it into the left circle for Giroux. He was surrounded by white jerseys, but was able to snap a wrister high short-side past David Brown, knotting the game at 1-1.

The Phantoms took a 2-1 lead 6:34 into the second period. Sean Curry floated a shot on net from the right point, and Brown had trouble with it. He left a rebound right at the feet of Jeff Szwez, who tucked it home to put the Phantoms back on top.

The Phantoms tacked on an insurance goal with 6:09 left in the third when Patrick Maroon fired a shot from the left boards that found its way through Brown's pads and wiggled over the line. Giroux picked up his second on an empty-netter late in the frame.

Munroe earned first star honors for his 28-save performance, which put him to 11-5 on the season. Brown absorbed the loss with 12 saves on 15 Philadelphia shots. The Phantoms did not have a complete two-minute man-advantage on the evening, and were officially 0-for-2 on two abbreviated power plays. The Penguins were 1-for-5.

The three wins boost the Phantoms record to 15-11-0-0 on the year for 30 points, putting them two points ahead of the Penguins and three points ahead of Binghamton for third place in the East Division.
