Peoria Rivermen News Release
Peoria, Ill. (December 4, 2008) - Join Rivermen captain Trent Whitfield and his wife Colleen in their fight to bring awareness and support for the National Down Syndrome Congress by purchasing a special, limited edition team autographed Christmas ornament. The ornaments are available at the Rivermen games as well as through the team's online store (http://rivermen.net/merchandise/index.html?c=56). Monetary donations can also be made there in denominations ranging from $10 to $500.
In addition to the ornaments, the St. Louis Blues have contributed items to be auctioned off for the cause. A team signed Blues jersey, signed sticks from each Brad Boyes, Manny Legace, Chris Mason, T.J. Oshie, and David Perron, as well as an autographed helmet from Eric Brewer are all being auctioned off through http://www.rivermen.net/merchandise/auctions/ with 100 percent of the proceeds donated to the NDSC.
The Whitfield's are the proud parents to son Colton and daughter Alstyn. Shortly after birth, Alstyn was diagnosed with Down syndrome. It is their goal to generate support and awareness through the National Down Syndrome Congress, an organization that supports both individual and family support, advocacy, information and networking.
This holiday season the wives and girlfriends of the Peoria Rivermen players will be selling the ornaments, with all money going to the National Down Syndrome Congress to aid in their campaign to promote awareness and acceptance of those affected by Down syndrome.
The ornaments are available for $20 each. For more information please call the team office at (309) 676-1040, or stop by the concourse tables behind sections 24 & 8 at any Rivermen home game between now and Christmas. Ornament availability is limited to just 250 bulbs for the holiday season.
If you would like more information on the NDSC, please visit the organization's web site at www.ndsccenter.org.
