Blades Defeat Rockets 4-2, Win 11th Straight on the Road

December 4, 2008 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release

The Saskatoon Blades extended their road winning streak with an impressive 4-2 victory over the Kelowna Rockets at Prospera Place.

A key to the Blades winning streak has been their starts, and last night against the Rockets was no different. The Blades got a boost from a huge hit by Ryan Funk, who sent Rockets leading scorer Jamie Benn into the Blades bench. Moments later, the line of Hulak, Kytnar, and Gallimore would work their way into the Rockets zone and put the blades up 1-0 on a pretty passing play, with Hulak finishing it for his 12th goal of the season. Goals from Walker Wintoneak and Stefan Elliott (PP) would stake the Blades to a 3-0 lead after the first period.

After an uneventful second period, the game intensified in the third. After Kelowna's first goal from Tyson Barrie, Charles Inglis squared off with Mitch Callahan in a very entertaining fight. Inglis' fight seemed to be contagious as Dziurzynski, Patterson, Reich, and Zahn would all drop the gloves shortly after. Mike Reich scored his 4th of the year on the power play to give the Blades a 4-1 lead before Stepan Novotny finished off the scoring for the Rockets.

Rookie Adam Morrison got the start in goal for the Blades and he showed no signs of rust as he picked up his 4th win of the year. Morrison has yet to lose a game in regulation time. Morrison made 27 saves on 29 shots. The Blades power play went 2 for 4, while the penalty kill was also 2 for 4.

The Blades get a day off before making their way to Chilliwack to face the Bruins on Friday night.
