Vancouver Giants News Release

VANCOUVER BC - Vancouver was looking to rebound from just their second loss of the season on Saturday night, and did so by outworking the Regina Pats and doubling up the Saskatchewan visitors by the score of 4-2.

After a quiet start to the game by both teams, Vancouver was able to establish control and open the scoring. Adam Basford capped a great shift on the fore-check by picking up the puck in the corner and firing a bullet pass out front. Former Regina Pat Todd Kennedy scored his first goal of the season, sliding in the Basford offering to open the scoring. Just a few minutes later, Evander Kane was able to fire home his 16th goal of the season, letting go a hard wrist shot that beat Pats net minder Linden Rowat high glove side. Kennedy and Kane gave the Giants a 2-0 lead after one period of play.

After a scoreless second period, the Giants were able to put the game away in the third thanks to some great work on the penalty kill. Evander Kane and Neil Manning were each able to bury shorthanded opportunities in the period, thanks to some great second and third efforts. Some late penalties near the end of the game put the Giants down two men, allowing Regina to cash in twice on the power play to make the score closer than it actually was.

Tyson Sexsmith played another strong game for the Giants, picking up win number 15 on the season. The Giants potent power play was limited to just one opportunity on the evening, and the G-Men did not convert on that chance.

Next up for the Giants will be a battle against the East Division leaders, the Saskatoon Blades on Saturday night. A special night to be sure as the annual Teddy Bear Toss will take place. When the Giants score their first goal of the game, everyone is encouraged to bring a stuffed toy and throw it on the ice. The Giants players and staff will collect the toys and donate them to children throughout the Lower Mainland who may not be as lucky to find a present under their tree otherwise. Fans are encouraged to bring as many stuffed toys as possible!

Game time versus the Blades will be at 7pm. You can hear all the action starting at 6:30 on AM 650. Brook Ward will host the SAVE ON FOODS PRE GAME SHOW, with Dave Sheldon and Bill Wilms providing the call of the game at 7.
