Chiefs Down Hitmen in Shootout

Dustin Tokarski stopped 35 shots, including five in overtime, in the Chiefs 4-3 shootout win over the Calgary Hitmen on Wednesday night in the Arena. Drayson Bowman scored the only goal of the shootout as Spokane ended the Hitmen's 11 game winning streak.

Bowman had the game's first, a snap shot on the power play from the right circle, that went top shelf for his 12th of the season. Stefan Ulmer and Trevor Glass had the assists. The Hitmen answered at 19:17 of the third with a power play goal of their own, their only is six chances on the night.

After a scoreless second, Tyler Johnson tallied his eighth of the year 52-seconds into the third from Levko Koper and Brenden Kichton to give Spokane a 2-1 lead.

Calgary scored the next two to take make it 3-2 for the road team, the first being a slap shot from Brett Sonne and then a three-on-one finished by Paul Postma at 9:42.

Jared Cowen's slap shot from just inside the blueline was re-directed in front by newly appointed captain Justin McCrae and Spokane evened the score at 17:37.

The Hitmen went on the power play with 45-seconds remaining in regulation and had the man advantage carry over into overtime. The Chiefs took another penalty 1:07 into the extra period but Tokarski was perfect in overtime and the shootout and won his 14th game of the season. It also marked his 57th career game, fourth all-time in Chiefs history.

After Mitch Wahl was stopped on Spokane's first opportunity of the shootout, Bowman scored and Tokarski shut the door on all three Calgary attempts for the win.

The Hitmen came into the night's game with the league's top scorer, goaltender, power play and penalty kill.

The Chiefs were 2-3 on the man advantage and 5-6 on the penalty kill. Calgary outshot Spokane 38-27.

Saturday night, the Chiefs will host the Kootenay Ice on the Annual Teddy Bear Toss presented by The Spokesman-Review. Fans are encouraged to bring a new teddy bear to the game and toss it onto the ice when the Chiefs score their first goal of the game. The game will also be broadcast live on Comcast channel 78.
