Justin Masterson to Attend Sea Dogs Hot Stove Dinner

Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs will host a Hot Stove Dinner and Silent Auction on Friday, January 9th at the Wyndham Hotel in South Portland. Red Sox pitcher and former Portland Sea Dog Justin Masterson will be the featured guest at the dinner. Additional guests will be announced. All proceeds from the dinner and silent auction will benefit the Strike Out Cancer in Kids Program.

Tickets for the event will go on sale on Tuesday, November 18th at 9:00 AM. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Hadlock Field Ticket Office, by phone at 207-879-9500 or online at www.seadogs.com. Only 300 tickets are available for this event, tickets cost $50 each. Everyone who attends will receive a signed 8 X 10 photo of Justin Masterson.

Justin Masterson began the 2008 season with the Portland Sea Dogs where he was named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the opening week of the season. Masterson was called up to the Red Sox on April 24th for a spot start where he tossed six strong innings in his Major League debut but did not factor into the decision and would return to the Sea Dogs. Masterson would conclude the 2008 season as one of the most reliable arms in the Red Sox bullpen. In his rookie season with the Red Sox Masterson posted a 6-5 record with one save and 3.16 ERA. Masterson also made nine appearances for the Red Sox in the playoffs where he was 1-0 with one save and a 1.86 ERA.

Masterson will be joined by other guests at the dinner including the 2009 Portland Sea Dogs' Manager and Red Sox minor league prospects. Personalities will be announced at a later date.

All proceeds from the dinner and silent auction will benefit the official charity of the Portland Sea Dogs'; the Strike Out Cancer in Kids Program. The Strike Out Cancer in Kids Program was established in 1995 to raise money for the Maine Children's Cancer Program. For every strikeout that a Sea Dogs' pitcher throws money is raised through generous pledges of businesses and individuals. The Portland Sea Dogs open the 2009 season on Thursday, April 9th at 6:00 PM at Hadlock Field against the Connecticut Defenders (Giants).
