Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

DES MOINES - Your Des Moines Buccaneers erupted tonight, winning their first shootout of the season and breaking their losing streak. The Bucs out scored and out shot the Indiana Ice in the 2-1 finish.

"We had a tremendous effort from everyone tonight. We finished every shift hard despite missing three key players tonight," said Head Coach J.P. Parisé. The Buccaneers started the game short Rocco Carzo, Josh Balch and Matt White as all three players headed north to play in the World Junior A Challenge in Camrose, Alberta.

The game started out slow with neither team scoring in the first period. The Buccaneers outshot Indiana, 6 to 12. The scoreless game was cut short when Jason Bourgea of Indiana scored just over five minutes into the second period. But the Buccaneers answered back with a powerplay goal by Alex Chiasson at 16:14 in the period. Chiasson was assisted by Nick Pryor and Brett Bruneteau. Indiana outshot the Bucs in the second period, 17 to 9. With the game tied at 1-1 and the tensions high between the teams on the ice, the 2032 fans in attendance were on their feet and ready for more action at the start of the third period. Neither team was able to score as both teams were sound in their defensive game in the period. With the end of the period, the Buccaneers and Ice would send the tied game into a sudden death 4-on-4 overtime period.

This was the fourth overtime period for the Buccaneers this season, while it was Indiana's first. Although both teams were aggressive on and off the ice, neither team was able to get the puck past the goalies. Once again the game would be determined by a shootout, the third of the Buccaneers season.

Indiana was first up and Ben Albertson was able to get his shot past goalie Aaron Crandall. Joes Gleason was up for the Buccaneers, and in redemption from last weekends shootout attempt, was able to get the pick in between the poles. Indiana would miss their second attempt, while Alex Chiasson would score the Buccaneers second goal of the shootout. Chris Stafne of Indiana would score the second goal for his team, while captain Chris Knowlton would score the third goal for the Buccaneers. Indiana would be unable to score on their fourth attempt, meaning the game would come down to Yasin Cisse. Cisse, who made his home debut tonight after nursing an injury from earlier this season, would score and win the game for the Buccaneers.

"These kids played sixty five minutes of hockey tonight. Aaron Crandall played a great game. Indiana played a heck of a game. But the team did what needed to be done," said Associate Head Coach Scott McConnell. The Bucs would end a seven game losing streak with the win over Indiana tonight. Aaron Crandall, Yasin Cisse and Alex Chiasson were selected as stars of the game, for a game everyone was waiting for. Aaron Crandall would win the game with 31 shots on goal and 30 saves.

The Buccaneers return to Buccaneer arena to take on the Lincoln Stars next Saturday, November 8th. It's Des Moines Register Family Fun Night. Fans can purchase four tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas and four autographs for $44. The Bucs will also be out on the ice after the game during a FREE public skate.
