Bakersfield Condors News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Condors left the cold of the ice rink for a pleasant, sunny day on the links Monday, for the 11th annual Condors Charity Golf Tournament. The sold-out tournament raised more money than any previous Condors golf tournament, bringing in over $10,000 for Kern Bridges Youth Homes. This year's sum balloons the all-time total raised by the Condors golf tournament to nearly $50,000.

The tournament, held at Rio Bravo Country Club, featured 23 teams comprised of four golf enthusiasts and at least one Condors player, playing a round of best ball. The day was filled with contests such as the longest drive, closest to the pin, hole-in-one, a putting contest and even a contest that included a regulation-size hockey goal placed 180 yards down the fairway. Numerous prizes, such as a Nintendo Wii, Ipod Nano, golf clubs, Dremmel Tools and Condors gear, were given out as well. Following the round of golf, all the participants enjoyed a post-tournament deep pit BBQ and a live auction and raffle.

The proceeds from the tournament benefit Kern Bridges Youth Homes, which provides adoption services for children previously destined for long-term foster care and continuing education for childcare professionals.

"Everyone had a fantastic time. The tournament was sold out and, all day long, all I heard was whooping and hollering from the course, everyone enjoyed themselves," said Kern Bridges Youth Homes CEO John Bacon. "And to top it off, the money goes to support abused and neglected children that Kern Bridges will look after and try to help find permanent loving homes."

Team Barks, consisting of Scott Barks, Mark Bateman, Steven Van Alstyan, John Van Alstyan and Condors Assistant Coach Mark Pederson, took home first place by posting a score of -16 on the day.

"There were a lot of smiling faces out there, and everyone had a great time," said Pederson. "We had some good golfers on our team and made some putts. Overall, it's great interaction with the fans and sponsors, and the guys enjoy getting out on the course with them."
