The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League announced at a press conference this afternoon the creation of the "Otters Hockey for the Hungry" Campaign that will begin Wednesday in select locations throughout the Erie area. The initiative, sponsored by UPMC Health Plan, General Partitions, Meineke, Dusckas Martin Funeral Home, Wendy's, Bay Valley Foods and Star-104, encourages residents to donate a non-perishable food item to the Second Harvest Food Bank. In return, the Otters will provide a free ticket for each item donated (limit of four) to their game against the Barrie Colts on Wednesday, November 5th.
"This is a program that will help some of the less fortune in our community in difficult economic times," said Otters General Manager and Managing Partner Sherry Bassin. "The fact that we are approaching Thanksgiving as well as the holiday season makes it all the more important to do what we can to have a positive impact in our community."
Current Otters Season Ticket Holders who wish to donate to the campaign will receive a ballot for each item donated (up to four) and will be entered into a drawing to win an autographed team replica jersey and other prizes.
"Otters Hockey for the Hungry" collection bins will be located at the Otters Office (809 French Street), Wendy's (I-90, Peach St., French St. and Edinboro locations), the Eastside YMCA and Bethel Christian School (located at 1781 West 38th St.). In addition, on Wednesday, November 5th the Second Harvest Food Bank and Star 104 will be collecting non-perishable food items in front of the Boston Store from 7 a.m. until noon.
