D.C. United News Release

Washington, D.C. (October 14, 2008) - D.C. United and its charitable arm, United for D.C., announced today that Shoppers Food and Pharmacy has provided an in-kind donation of more than $5,000 worth of school supplies to the United Drives Program. This endowment will benefit United's six adopted schools, which are currently involved in United for D.C.'s signature program United Reads. In recognition, Shoppers Food and Pharmacy will be honored for its donation during halftime of United's final MLS regular season home match against the New England Revolution on Thursday, October 16.

"We are excited about our new relationship with Shoppers Food and Pharmacy and hope that it will continue to grow in the future," said United's Director of Community Relations Aprile Pritchet. "Being able to provide such a substantial number of school supplies to our six adopted schools has been an added value to the schools, students and teachers! With the help of Shoppers, we were able to collect more than 10,000 items over the course of the 2008 season."

The last drive will be during the month of October, when D.C. United Drives will collect winter coats and clothes to benefit Goodwill of Greater Washington. During the Black-and-Red's last match on Oct. 16, the collection bin will be located outside RFK Stadium's Gate A, and will be open from two hours prior to the game until 15 minutes after kick-off. Donations are also accepted in the D.C. United offices, located on the fourth floor of Gate A.

This season marks the seventh year of the United Drives campaign, which collects much-needed items to help with each beneficiary's mission. Each month during the 2008 regular season, D.C. United collected items at every home game to benefit pre-determined non-profit organizations within the Washington, D.C. area. Fans who donated an item received a "Buy One, Get One Free" ticket voucher, redeemable for any 2008 regular season home game.
