Wildcats remain undefeated in regulation time

The Wildcats improved to 8-0-2-0 this past weekend thanks to an overtime loss Friday night and a win Sunday afternoon. The win was Nicola Riopel's fourth career shut-out.

The week the Wildcats travel to Bathurst on Wednesday, Baie-Comeau Friday and Chicoutimi on Saturday. The Wildcats are yet to face any of these teams this season. Matt Eagles, Ted Stephens and Scott Brannon lead the Wildcats in scoring with 13, 12 and 11 points respectively so far this year.

Friday October 10th vs Victoriaville Moncton Coliseum 7:00PM GAME NOTES:

Cats comeback stopped in OT The Moncton Wildcats have yet to lose a game in regulation time so far this season.

On Friday night, the Victoriaville Tigres scored a short-handed goal with 13.4 seconds left in overtime to gain a 4-3 victory.

The Tigres took the lead at 6:45 of the first period on Philip-Michael Devos goal from Bonneau and Labonte. Matt Lahey evened the game for Moncton at 13:26 with his second of the year, Ted Stevens picked up the assist.

After a scoreless second stanza, Victoriaville upped their lead to 3-1 at 9:25 on Brandon Hynes goal from Dave Nolin and Maxime Tanguay on the power-play. With a 5 minute major penalty to Victoriaville, the Wildcats started their comeback at 13:59 when Pierre-Marc Lessard got his 3rd of the year from Eagles and Barberio. Matthew Bissonnette with his first goal of the season tied the game at 17:21, with assists going to Ted Stephens and David Savarad.

In the overtime, the game officials appeared confused on the man power situation and the Tigre scored their shorthanded goal at 4:47, Devos got his second of the night with Pianosi setting up the play.

Victoriaville outshot Moncton 30-25. On powerplays, the Wildcats were 2 for 9 while the Tigres were 1 for 5.

Game stars were Lessard of the Wildcats number three, Brandon Hynes of Victoriaville number two and Matt Lahey of Moncton, the first star.

Sunday October 12 vs Montreal Moncton Coliseum 4:00PM GAME NOTES:

Cats blank Montreal A first period power play goal by Ted Stephens, his sixth of the season, was all the offense the Moncton Wildcats needed to defeat the Montreal Junior 1-0 on Sunday afternoon. The game winning counter came at 5:22 with Daniel Petterson and Matthew Bissonnette drawing the assist.

Neither team managed to score in the remaining 40 minutes. The game marked the eighth win for Moncton this season; they remain the only team in the QMJHL unbeaten in regulation time.

Both goaltenders, Jean-Francois Berube of Montreal and Nicola Riopel of the Wildcats made good saves when called. Berbube stopped 33 of the 34 shots he faced while Riople was faultless handled 29 from Montreal. On the power play, the Wildcats penalty kill was 100% not giving up a goal on six calls. Moncton was 1-5 with the man advantage.

The Moncton Wildcats will battle against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan Wednesday. Taylor Lambke leads the Titan with 8 goals, 3 assists and 11 points in 12 games so far this season.

Friday October 17th vs Baie-Comeau Centre Henry-Léonard 7:00PM GAME NOTES:

The Moncton Wildcats will battle against the Baie-Comeau Drakkar Friday at the Centre Henry-Léonard. The Drakkar are 4th in the Telus Eastern Division with 7 points. Félix Petit leads the Drakkar with 2 goals, 13 assists and 15 points in 10 games so far this season.

Saturday October 18th vs Chicoutimi Centre Ceorges-Vézina 4:00PM GAME NOTES:

The Moncton Wildcats will face the Chicoutimi Sagueneens. The Sagueneens are currently 3rd in the Telus Eastern Divison with 7 points. Dominic Jalbert leads the Saguenens with 5 goals, 7 assists and 12 points in 11 games so far this season.
