Spokane Chiefs News Release

The Spokane Chiefs remained in first place in the WHL's U.S. Division after a 5-1 win over the Everett Silvertips on Saturday night in the Spokane Arena. After an opening night loss to Kootenay, the Chiefs have earned a point in eight straight games and have a 6-1-0-2 record and 14 points, two points better than the second place Tri-City Americans.

The win was the second in a row over Everett and for the second time, five different players scored goals. The Chiefs outshot Everett 22-7 in the first, but it was the Silvertips who took a 1-0 lead 1:52 in on Shane Harper's rebound off the back boards. It was the first goal in three games in the Spokane Arena the Chiefs have given up.

Spokane's Dustin Donaghy scored his second of the year at 3:22 of the second on a Stefan Ulmer assist and evened the game at one. Goals 59-seconds apart by Ryan Letts, a power play goal that gives him three in two games, and David Conrad, his first as a Chief, late in the second pushed Spokane's lead to 3- 1.

Drayson Bowman blew past the Everett defense at 11:21 of the third and scored a power play goal and Mike Betz tallied his first career at 12:15 to make it a 5- 1 final.

The Chiefs were 2-9 on the power play and 6-6 on the penalty kill.

Tonight's game was the first of three in a row, and five of six at home for Spokane after playing six of their first eight games on the road.

The Chiefs will host Portland on Wednesday, October 15th on TicketsWest Player Magnet Wednesday. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a collector's edition magnet of a Chiefs player.

Tickets to all home games are available by calling the Chiefs office at (509) 535-PUCK or TicketsWest at (800) 325-SEAT.
