Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Two big scraps late in the second period put real estate in the Young Arena penalty boxes at a premium Saturday, while the Green Bay Gamblers pushed past the Waterloo Black Hawks for a 3-1 final in preseason action.

The game was 1-0 after Ryan Furne's goal at 10:57 of the opening period. The rough stuff started with Keegan Meuer and Robert Shea as the principal combatants in a tussle at 11:46 of the second period. Waterloo went to a power play from the ensuing penalties, but before the two minutes had elapsed, Brock Montpetit and David Makowski dropped the gloves at 13:03.

Green Bay added to their lead in the third period with goals from John O'Neill and Chris Saracino. The Black Hawks broke up Green Bay's shutout bid at 12:03 when Angelo Vrachnas banged in the rebound from Scott Pavelski's initial shot.

Joe Howe and Reid Ellingson started in goal and stopped ten and nine shots respectively before coming out at 9:49 of the second period. Dan Sullivan and Steve Summerhays made five and twelve saves. Saturday's game was played in three 17-minute periods. A total of 92 minutes in penalties were distributed.

The Black Hawks and Gamblers will meet for a rematch in a game that counts on October 4th as both teams open the regular season at the Resch Center. Next weekend, the entire league will gather in Sioux City for the USHL Fall Classic. Select games will be available via the B2 Network. For more details, visit www.ushlfallclassic.com.
