WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Starting pitcher Cole Rohrbough and catcher Tyler Flowers combined to power Myrtle Beach past Winston-Salem 5-1 in game three on a wet and windy Friday night at Ernie Shore Field. With the win, the Pelicans grabbed a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five Southern Divisional playoff series.

Rohrbough tossed six solid innings in holding the Warthogs to an unearned run on two hits in six innings of work. The southpaw walked three and struck out three to earn the win. Flowers finished with three hits including a pair of doubles and a mammoth solo home run in the ninth to lead the Pelicans attack that out-hit Winston-Salem 10-3.

The Warthogs took advantage of a Myrtle Beach miscue to grab an early lead. On the first pitch of the game, C.J Retherford slapped a ground ball to second, but a high throw to first by Travis Jones allowed him to reach base safely. Salvador Sanchez followed with a single to advance Retherford to third and John Shelby III notched an RBI sacrifice fly to put Winston-Salem in front 1-0.

Myrtle Beach took control of the game in the third inning with a pair of runs off Clevelan Santeliz. Walks to Gorkys Hernandez and Eric Campbell put runners on first and second with one out. Ernesto Mejia brought the first run home with a single down the left field line. Next, Flowers smacked a double to give the Pelicans a 2-1 advantage.

In the sixth inning, Hernandez hit into a double play with runners on the corners to bring another run across for Myrtle Beach. The Pelicans would add an insurance run on an RBI double by Mejia in the seventh to extend their lead to 4-1. Flowers put the exclamation point on the victory by smashing a solo blast off Steven Spurgeon in the ninth inning.

Santeliz lasted four innings for Winston-Salem and surrendered two runs on four hits with four walks to suffer the loss.

Game 4 of the Southern Divisional playoff series is set for Saturday at Ernie Shore Field with the first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. The Warthogs will send RHP Jacob Rasner (5-7, 3.29) to the mound, while the Pelicans will counter with RHP Ryne Reynoso (10-6, 3.36.
