[DAYTONA BEACH, FL] - Ty Wright has been named the Florida State League Player of the Week for the final week of the regular season (August 25-September 1). Wright was a key component of the Cubs offense during the final week, helping propel Daytona to their first playoff appearance since 2004.

"It was more of a team deal," Wright said, "You can kind of release the individual from it because we went 8-2 and it takes more than just one person playing well to do that." As a middle of the order guy, Wright did drive in the base runners that reached ahead of him.

On the week, Wright hit .500, going 13-for-26, with two doubles and 10 runs batted in. Several of the RBIs came in critical situations, such as a two-run double to jump start the Cubs offense in game one of a doubleheader against Jupiter on Friday August 29. Wright also drove home the only two runs for Daytona in game two that same day.

This is the second time a Daytona Cub has been recognized in August. Jeremy Papelbon was awarded pitcher of the week for the week of August 11-17. The last Cub to be the FSL Player of the Week was Ryan Harvey in July 2006. The Cubs playoff run continues tonight with game two of the FSL East Divisional round. Daytona will also host as many as three games in the Florida State League Championship upon advancing. For ticket information call 386-257-3172 or go to www.daytonacubs.com.
