Braves Win Final Game

Richmond, VA - The Richmond Braves beat the Norfolk Tides 9-3 Monday at The Diamond in the final game of the 2008 season for both clubs. The Braves closed their final season in Richmond with five straight wins.
Richmond jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Wes Timmons and a sacrifice fly by Enrique Cruz. Jason Perry crushed a two-run home run in the fourth inning to give the Braves a 4-0 lead. Richmond batted around in the fifth inning, scoring three more runs. Diory Hernandez scampered home on an error. Scott Thorman chased a run home with a single. Timmons knocked in a run with a bases-loaded walk. The Tides tallied three runs in the sixth. Chris Roberson doubled two home. Freddie Bynum knocked in a run with a single trimming Richmond's lead to 7-3. The Braves tacked on a run in the sixth on an RBI double by Hernandez. Timmons smacked a home run in the seventh to close the scoring.
Brian Lawrence earned the win. Alfredo Simon took the loss. Carl Loadenthal had three of Richmond's 14 hits. Timmons knocked in three runs. Bynum, Jeff Fiorentino, and Brandon Fahey had two hits each for the Tides. The Braves bullpen tossed three and a third scoreless innings and closed the season by allowing just two runs over their last 33.2 innings.
