Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

SAVANNAH, Ga. - During the Sand Gnats doubleheader with the Rome Braves on Sunday afternoon, the 100,000th fan of the 2008 season strolled through the turnstiles at Historic Grayson Stadium. Savannah split the doubleheader, dropping game one but coming back to win in the second game.

The Dupree family of Todd, Aaron, Grant and Caleb represented the 100,000th fan through the gates this season. Sunday's announced crowd was 1,378.

In the first game, the pitcher's duel continued between SCAD-draftee Richard Sullivan (2-2) and the Sand Gnat's Scott Moviel. Sullivan would throw six innings allowing one run on four hits with three strikeouts. Moviel was just as effective, going six innings of his own while allowing one run on four hits with five strikeouts. However, Rome scored a run in the top of the seventh off reliever Brad Burns (0-3) to take a 2-1 lead that would eventually be the final score.

Another close game awaited Rome and Savannah in the second contest. In a 1-1 tie, a sacrifice fly by Carlos Guzman gave the Sand Gnats a 2-1 lead they wouldn't relinquish. B.J. Hubbert, who was celebrating his 23rd birthday, added a two-run homer in the sixth to allow Savannah some breathing room.

Manny Olivares (3-1) picked up the win in the second game for the Sand Gnats and Jeff Locke (5-12) suffered the loss. It's the first series win for the Gnats since they swept Hickory from July 29-Aug. 1.

The Sand Gnats (25-34) begin their final road trip of 2008 Monday night in Charleston. Savannah returns home for the final homestand of 2008 on Saturday with three games against the RiverDogs. For tickets and more information, visit www.sandgnats.com or call 912.351.9150.
