Hagerstown Suns News Release

HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Delmarva Shorebirds (34-25) were too much for the Hagerstown Suns (22-38) on Friday night. Eight of the nine Shorebirds starters tallied a hit en route to the 6-1 victory.

Delmarva opened the scoring with two runs in the third inning. Shortstop Pedro Florimon led the inning off with a walk and was followed up by a Matt Angle single. After a sacrifice bunt, first baseman Anthony Martinez brought them both in with a single to left field.

The Shorebirds tacked on another run in the sixth and three in the seventh inning to make it 6-0.

Hagerstown scored their lone run in the bottom of the eighth inning. With two outs, shortstop Jose Lozada singled on a line drive to right field. He advanced to second on a Tim Pahuta walk and scored on a Sean Rooney bloop single to left field.

Nathan Nery (5-3) was great for Delmarva on the mound. The lefty pitched seven scoreless innings and struck out six. Ricardo Pecina (0-1) took the loss for the Suns in his first start for Hagerstown.

The Suns and Shorebirds return to action tomorrow night at 7:05 from Municipal Stadium.
