WOODBRIDGE, Va.- The Potomac Nationals have announced that pitcher Andrew Kown has been sent to Triple-A Columbus, and pitcher Luis Atilano has been activated from the disabled list.

In his first start Thursday for the Clippers, Kown earned the victory tossing six exceptional innings and allowing just one run on seven hits. The Georgia-native was signed by the Washington Nationals as a minor league free agent in July after he was released by the Detroit Tigers.

Kown's stay with the P-Nats was brief as he appeared in just three games going 0-2 with a 3.00 ERA. The right-hander also made two appearances out of the bullpen with Double-A Harrisburg earlier this season, where he surrendered eight runs on eight hits in just 2 1/3 innings.

Prior to joining the Nationals, the Georgia Tech University product spent the majority of the 2008 season with the Double-A Erie SeaWolves. The 25-year-old pitched primarily as a starter going 5-9 with a 5.38 ERA in 17 games. Originally drafted by Detroit in the fifth round of the 2004 draft, Kown begins his first stint above Double-A.

Atilano returns to Potomac's starting rotation after he was placed on the disabled list August 11due to right shoulder tightness The Puerto Rican has been consistent for the Nationals' rotation this season owning a 5-1 record with a 2.05 ERA. The right-hander has pitched five innings in each of his last seven starts earning wins in five of them as he continues to rebound from "Tommy John" surgery.

Atilano is expected to start Friday night for the P-Nats against the Lynchburg Hillcats.

The promotion leaves the Potomac Nationals with 25 players on their active roster, 12 pitchers and 13 position players.
