-SPIKES ENTER SEASON'S FINAL STRETCH: The Spikes face the Jamestown Jammers in the first of a two-game series. The Jammers were State College's Opening Night opponent, and have taken four of five games from the Spikes this year. Although the Jammers no longer have the NYPL's best record, a distinction they held for much of the year, the Marlins affiliates still sent seven players plus manager Darin Everson's coaching staff to the All-Star Game. Jamestown is 4-6 over their last ten games.

-SUNDAY NIGHT: Williamsport was able to put together a ninth-inning comeback and take their third straight one-run victory of the series over State College, 4-3. The Spikes led, 3-2, entering the ninth. But Jim Murphy led off the top of the ninth with a solo homer to tie it, and then Daniel Hargrave doubled in Troy Hanzawa to give the Crosscutters the lead. Quincy Latimore had a three-hit game, marking the fifth time this year he's put up three or more hits in a game. All-Star Chase d'Arnaud went 1-for-5 with his fifth triple of 2008.

-TONIGHT'S SPIKES STARTER: Right-hander Ramon Aguero heads to the mound for State College tonight. Aguero has had a hard-luck 2008, leading the New York-Penn League in losses although he has allowed two earned runs or less in five of them, including his most recent defeat at the hands of Aberdeen on August 9th. In his last start, Aguero went 2.2 innings against Staten Island, allowing four runs in a no-decision.

-TONIGHT'S JAMMERS STARTER: Left-hander Dan Jennings started the All-Star Game for the National League side, and now starts the opener of the season's homestretch for Jamestown. Jennings is making his 11th start of the year. Last time out with the Jammers, Jennings took the loss with four Hudson Valley runs over 5.2 innings. Hitters have just a .216 average with runners in scoring position against Jennings.

-2008 NYPL ALL-STAR GAME: Chase d'Arnaud's leadoff double sparked a three-run National League comeback in the bottom of the ninth as the NL defeated the American League All-Stars, 4-3. Jeremy Farrell also went 1-for-3 for the NL. State College hosts the game in 2009.
