Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA - The Kane County Cougars anticipate reaching a historic attendance figure as early as tomorrow (August 5) as the 8 millionth fan is expected to pass through the Elfstrom Stadium gates. Currently, the Cougars sit just 5,188 fans short of the 8 million mark. Based on projected pre-sale figures from the Cougars ticket office, the organization anticipates reaching the milestone mark tomorrow evening in advance of the 6:30 p.m. game against the Beloit Snappers.
Welcomed at the gate by Cougars General Manager Jeff Sedivy and Ozzie T. Cougar, the eight millionth fan will be showered with numerous gifts from the organization including a team autographed bat, a variety of Cougars souvenirs and the opportunity to throw out a ceremonial first pitch that night. The lucky fan will also receive a gift certificate for a 2009 single-night rental in one of the Cougars' VIP suites.
Since the Cougars inception in 1991, 7,994,812 fans have passed through the gates into Elfstrom Stadium. Now in their 18th season, the Cougars have successfully placed affordable and family-friendly baseball on the map in the Chicago area as the only major-league affiliated minor league team and the first entry of its kind onto the Chicago market. As a greater strain is placed on fans who are juggling the rising cost of goods and services, the Cougars have witnessed capacity crowds and a sizable fan base make Elfstrom Stadium their destination. So far in 2008, the Cougars have welcomed crowds of 10,000 or more people on seven occasions, including last Saturday's game which was attended by 13,619 Cougars faithful.
With the home stretch of the season to go, Cougars fans have enjoyed a memorable 2008 season. Some of the highlights include:
- A playoff-bound squad opening the season with ten straight wins, a franchise record.
- Welcoming the 97th (Athletics IF Gregorio Petit) and 98th (Marlins C John Baker) former Cougars into the Major Leagues, joining a prestigious list of Cougars alumni that includes Ryan Dempster and Adrian Gonzalez.
- Taking part of the first minor league contest at Wrigley Field last Tuesday against the Peoria Chiefs.
- Bringing fan involvement to a new level by unofficially breaking the record for the World's Largest Pillow Fight.
- Groundbreaking for the stadium expansion project, which includes a concourse covering, luxury suites and new administrative offices.
Fans can enjoy some late-summer entertainment this month as the Cougars' remaining home schedule includes 10 games with post-game fireworks shows, appearances by Rubberboy, the Marching Cobras, skydivers, Jake the Diamond Dog and the Zooperstars. For tickets, fans can call the Cougars box office at (630) 232-8811 or visit www.kccougars.com.
