St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN (July 15, 2008) - The giveaway is a staple of a professional baseball team's promotional schedule. Throughout history, fans have flocked to the ballpark to receive giveaway items such as bats, caps, gloves, beanie babies and bobbleheads. For 16 seasons the Saints have given away some of the most notable and talked-about items, but now the club has decided to turn the tables.
On Thursday, July 17, the Saints will ask the first 2,500 fans (the usual number of fans who receive a giveaway item from the club) to give THEM an item as they enter Midway Stadium as part of Takeaway Night presented by Noodles and Company.
"For years, fans have received items as they enter the stadium," said Derek Sharrer, Saints Executive Vice President and General Manager. "It's finally our turn."
The item can be anything on the person or an item they've gone out and purchased, however the focus is to support a worthy cause.
Fans are asked to bring in new or used school supplies that will be donated to children in need. The items will be donated to World Storehouse Vision who will pass the items onto students in Minneapolis and St. Paul schools. Pencils, pens, notebooks, calculators, paper or anything else that would help a child during the school year is recommended.
The first 2,500 fans that enter the gates will have something "taken away" from them in support of this worthy cause.
Game time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. as the Saints wrap up a three-game series against the Sioux City Explorers. Fans can purchase tickets to Takeaway Night by contacting the Saints box office at 651-644-6659 or by visiting saintsbaseball.com.
