Hill City Howlers News Release
THE HILLCATS: Lynchburg fell to Frederick 5-2 last night at City Stadium to even up the three-game series at a game a piece...The loss snapped the Hillcats season-high six-game winning streak...The Cats can still take the three-game set by winning the rubber match...Tonight is their sixth game of nine in a row at home...
VS. FREDERICK: The Keys are 8-4 against the Hillcats this season and 3-2 in the Hill City...The Cats have the all-time advantage 142-125, and are 74-62 at home...
RUBBER MATCHES: This season the Hillcats are 7-4 in rubber matches and have won five straight deciding games of series...Prior to their three-game sweep of Salem last series the Cats had three straight series end in a rubber match that they won...
TOP 30 PROSPECTS: The Carolina League announced their top 30 prospects for the 2008 season...Lynchburg had four players featured on the list: LHP Daniel Moskos, SS Brian Friday, INF Jim Negrych and OF Jamie Romak...Moskos, Friday and Watson are all in their first full season after being selected by the Pirates in the e 2007 draft...Moskos has gone 7-4 after converting back to a starter, Friday was a Mid-Season All-Star and Watson is posting an ERA of 3.69...Romak is tied for the league-lead in home runs with 15 this season...
ONE STREAK HALTED: 3B Jim Negrych went 0-for-3 last night with a walk and saw his 17-game hit-streak come to an end...It was the longest hit streak of the season by a Hillcat, it tied Lee Evans (2000) for the sixth longest streak ever by a Hillcat and came just one game shy of the longest streak in the Carolina League this season (Willie Cabrera, Myrtle Beach)...Over that stretch he went gone 28-for-64 (.438) with ten doubles, a triple, 14 runs scored and seven RBI...Negrych did keep his streak of reaching base safely intact...He has now reached safely in 19 consecutive games dating back to June 14th...That mark has tied the longest by a Hillcat this season (Brian Friday) and is still 11 shy of tying the longest of the season in the CL (30, Willie Cabrera)...
COMEBACK CATS: Saturday night Lynchburg mounted their biggest comeback of the season, as they came from five runs down to top Frederick 7-5...The Hillcats scored seven unanswered runs, including three in the bottom of the eighth to pull out the win...Prior to last night, the Cats had won 10 out of 12 and had come back five times over that stretch...They matched their biggest comeback of the season two times by coming from four runs down against Myrtle Beach (6/21) and Winston-Salem (6/28), came from behind in the ninth inning for just the second time all season against Salem (Thursday night) and then rallied again Saturday night...Lynchburg had nine come from behind victories in 74 games before their five recent rallies...
LAYING ONE DOWN: In the last four games the Hillcats have laid down eleven bunts...They have four bunt singles, four sacrifice bunts, a failed sacrifice bunt and two failed attempts at a bunt hit...They also failed in trying to execute a suicide squeeze bunt that wasn't laid down...Lynchburg has 35 sacrifice bunts this season in 87 games after 27 in 137 contests last year...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Jake Renshaw was selected in the 10th round of the 2006 by the Chicago Cubs out of Ventura College...In 2006 he pitched for the Cubs in the Arizona League and went 0-1 with a 5.57 ERA in seven games (six starts)...He also threw for Boise in the Northwest League and posted a 1-3 record with a 4.24 ERA in five starts...Last season he went 12-8 with a 4.33 ERA in 23 games (22 starts) for Peoria in the Midwest League...He came to the Baltimore organization to complete a trade made last season with Chicago involving RHP Steve Trachsel...This year he has gone 6-5 with a 5.27 ERA in 14 games (12 starts) with the Keys...Renshaw has made two appearances (one start) against Lynchburg this season, including his first outing of the year, and has gone 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA...
