TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Traverse City Beach Bums designated hitter Jake Whitesides will cut off his long hair before Sunday's game with the Midwest Sliders.

Whitesides has been growing his hair out all season for the opportunity to make a donation to a charity. He has chosen Wigs 4 Kids, an organization that reaches out to kids and young adults with hair loss. Wigs 4 Kids main focus is on cancer patients and includes other young people with similar appearance related challenges that cause hair loss such as:, alopecia, trichotillomania, lupus, hydrocephalus, burns and other disorders.

Wigs 4 Kids helps children who struggle to deal with social acceptance because of physical appearance. By providing custom-fitted, age-appropriate wigs which are individually cut and styled, Wigs 4 Kids helps kids feel better about their appearance and look more like their peers.

The haircut will occur on top of the Beach Bums dugout at 4:15pm on Sunday prior to the 5:30pm contest with the Midwest Sliders in the final game of a brief three-game home series. Teresa King, a hair stylist at one of Traverse City's premier salons, Valerio's, will have the honor of giving Whitesides a haircut.

A Frontier League All-Star, Whitesides is currently hitting .290 with a team high six homers and 40 RBI. The 40 RBI are tied for the most in the Frontier League. He has played in all 42 games this season, starting 39 games as the designated hitter and three games in the field.
