Tribe Talk.... Kinston Sweeps POTW Honors! - Josh Tomlin is this weeks Carolina League Pitcher of the Week and Jason Denham is the Carolina League Player of the Week. Tomlin faced the minimum giving up just one hit through six innings. The Carolina League All-Star picked up his first win as a starter, and now is tied with the team high in wins with 6. Denham had a great week with the bat, hitting .500 in four games. Denham was 7-for-14 with three doubles and six RBIs in the four contests. Denham's week highlights a fantastic June, as the outfielder is hitting .329 in the month after hitting just .190 in May. Denham is hitting .378 (14-for-37) in his last ten games, vaulting his average from .227 to .261 for the season. He also had a 21 game on-base streak from May 18th to June 20th.
Southern Division Leaders - The K-Tribe has won three of their first four after the All-Star Break, after going 5-1 to start the second half. They are tied with the most wins in the month of June with today's opponent, Potomac, with 17 wins each. After winning just 8 games in April, the K-Tribe has the second most wins since the end of April with 34, one short of Myrtle Beach. Kinston has enjoyed at least a share of the top spot in the Carolina League Southern Division for the entire second half. It is the only time they have been in first place this season. The Future, Hector? - Hector Rondon was named to the World Roster of the 2008 All-Star Futures Game at Yankee Stadium. He is the only player in the Cleveland farm system to play in the game. After hearing the news over the weekend, Rondon struck out six against Potomac yesterday, taking over second place in the Carolina League with 91 strikeouts.
Home Run Heroes - Kinston is on a round tripper tear, belting 10 home runs in their last five games, including a season high four on Friday night. After hitting just eight home runs in April, Kinston hit 21 in May and has hit the third most of any team in the CL in June with 25.
Mashing Mills - Beau Mills racked up his second multi-home run game of the season on Friday night. It was Beau's team leading 10th and 11th home runs of the season, he has hit six home runs in the month of June.
Oh Canada - 20-year-old Canadian Nick Weglarz had his second 10 game hit streak of the season snapped last night, tying the team high 10 game streak he set from April 26th to May 6th.
