Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., June 23, 2008) - Long Island Ducks team officials today announced the signing of pitcher Joe Valentine. The righthander became available after being released by the Philadelphia Phillies organization on Sunday.
"We're excited to have Joe rejoin our pitching staff," says Ducks manager Dave LaPoint. "He will be another reliable arm in the bullpen and is a great addition to the team."
Valentine began the year with Long Island, posting a 2-1 record with six saves and a 1.62 ERA in 16.2 innings of work. On May 24, he had his contract purchased by the Philadelphia Phillies and was assigned to Double-A Reading of the Eastern League.
In order to make room on the 25-man roster, the Ducks placed pitcher Donovan Osborne on the inactive list.
The Long Island Ducks play their home games at Citibank Park and are in their ninth season of play in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. For further information, visit www.liducks.com, or call (631) 940-3825.
