WINSTON-SALEM, NC - A pair of home runs and a solid outing from Jeanmar Gomez carried Kinston to a 6-1 win over Winston-Salem in the series opener on Friday night at Ernie Shore Field. Gomez (2-5) tossed a season-high seven innings and held the Warthogs to one run while scattering four hits to earn his second win of the season.

Kinston put a run on the board in the third inning when Niuman Romero lifted a 0-2 pitch over the right field wall for a solo home run. It was his first round-tripper of the season and gave the Indians a 1-0 lead. Kinston added to their advantage in the sixth inning when Johnny Drennen singled and Beau Mills followed with a blast off the scoreboard in right field to give the Indians a 3-0 advantage.

Winston-Salem brought their lone run across in the bottom of the sixth inning when Javier Colina walked and scored on a RBI double by Brandon Allen. Kinston added three more runs in the ninth inning as Romero and Cirilo Cumberbatch tallied RBI hits off Warthogs reliever Ricky Brooks to put Winston-Salem away.

Warthog's starter Michael Dubee (3-3) worked six innings and surrendered three runs on five hits, including both homers, in six innings to take the loss. All four Winston-Salem hits were doubles as they left seven on base, including five in scoring position.

These two teams will face off in a doubleheader on Saturday with the opener slated for 5 p.m. Both games are scheduled for seven innings with the Warthogs sending LHP Aaron Poreda (3-2, 2.34) up against Indians RHP Josh Tomlin (4-1, 2.10) in game one. Winston-Salem RHP Levi Maxwell (0-0, 0.00) will be making his Carolina League debut in the nightcap. The recently promoted hurler will square off against RHP Jim Deters (1-1, 4.50).
