Kinston starter Jeanmar Gomez pitched seven strong innings as Kinston beat Winston-Salem 6-1 Friday night at Ernie Shore Field. Gomez (2-5) picked up the win, giving up just four hits and one earned run in seven innings of work. Dan Cevette and Luis Perdomo combined for two hitless innings from Kinston's bullpen.
The K-Tribe started the scoring in the top of the third inning with a solo home run by Niuman Romero. It was Romero's first homer of the season and just the tenth of his six year Minor League career. Beau Mills hit a two-run home run for Kinston in the top of the sixth to make the score 3-0. It was Mills fourth home run of the season. Romero was at it again in the ninth inning with an RBI single. Cirilo Cumberbatch drove in two more in the ninth with an RBI single of his own for the 6-1 lead and eventual win. Mills, Drennen and Romero all went 2-for-4 for the K-Tribe. Kinston managed nine hits as a team on the night.
The K-Tribe takes on Winston-Salem Saturday at Ernie Shore Field with a double header starting at 5pm. Josh Tomlin is schedule to pitch for Kinston in game one, Jim Deters the probable pitcher for game two.
