Esks add running backs, defensive linemen

(Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimos have signed non-import running backs Jason Marshall and Chris Ciezki and import defensive linemen Tyler Clutts and Jim Davis, the club announced today.
A North Vancouver native, Marshall spent his college career as quarterback at SFU. His senior year he played in eight games and completed 78 of 149 passes for four touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also ran 60 times for 299 yards and one touchdown.
Ciezki signed with the BC Lions in 2006, but returned to UBC for his final season of eligibility. Last season he rushed for 690 yards on 120 carries for two touchdowns over eight games. In 2006, he established both a UBC and Canada West record with 14 rushing touchdowns. He also became just the third UBC back to hit the 1,000 yard mark. Prior to joining the Thunderbirds, Ciezki starred with the Edmonton Huskies (CJFL) and became the first player in junior football history to rush for 1,000-plus yards in three consecutive seasons.
A Second Team All-WAC selection in 2006, Clutts played 13 games last season for the Bulldogs, recording a total of 64 tackles, seven and a half sacks, two fumble recoveries and nine and a half tackles for loss for a total of 32 yards. Clutts joined Fresno State as a projected linebacker but found a home at defensive end. He started every game in 2005 and was selected as a Kiwanis Torch of Excellence winner for academic achievement in 2006. Clutts moved into 3rd place in all time career sacks for Fresno State on December 31, 2007.
Signed as an undrafted free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2005, Davis appeared in one game before he was released in September 2006. Davis played four seasons at defensive end for the Virginia Tech Hokies. He left the Hokies with 131 tackles, 19 sacks, one fumble recovery and one interception in 48 games. He was one of only three true freshmen to see action in 2000.
The Eskimos also announced that imports Tim Cheatwood (DE), Zach Anderson (DE) and Anitco Dalton (LB) have been released.
