HOOVER, Ala. - The Birmingham Barons and Susan G. Komen For The Cure will once again partner together to present the Barons' Mother's Day game this Sunday. First pitch against the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx will be at 2:05 pm.

Barons players will wear pink hats during the game, and each one will be autographed and auctioned off in a silent auction that will run during the Barons games this Saturday and Sunday, May 10-11. Money raised will benefit Komen for the Cure.

"We are proud to partner with Susan G. Komen For The Cure again this year as we collectively help raise awareness and financial support for breast cancer research," said Barons General Manager Jonathan Nelson.

Komen has built a special "Mother's Day Package" that fans can purchase before Sunday's contest. The package is $100 and includes five tickets to Sunday's game, admission for five to a deluxe pre-game brunch at Regions Park, and flowers and a special gift for mom. If fans are interested in the package but are unable to stay for the game, the game tickets can be redeemed at any other Sunday game this year.

"Susan G. Komen For The Cure has worked closely with the Barons to promote breast cancer awareness, education, and early detection for the past several years," said Kathy Stein, a board member of the North Central Alabama affiliate of Susan G. Komen For The Cure. "This partnership is unique in that it expands the relationship between Komen and Major League Baseball to a very local level and is instrumental in assisting breast cancer awareness efforts and fundraising for research right here in Birmingham. We at Susan G. Komen appreciate the efforts of the Barons organization and look forward to continuing our relationship," Stein continued.

Komen For The Cure has joined with Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball the last few seasons to use games on Mother's Day as a vehicle to raise support and awareness for breast cancer research and treatment. Many players across the country wear pink ribbons and wristbands during their Mother's Day game, and several Major League players have used pink bats. Many MLB stadiums also integrate pink bases. In each case, the pink items are auctioned off, with the proceeds benefiting Susan G. Komen For The Cure.

Susan G. Komen For The Cure is the largest source of funding for breast cancer research, education, and prevention in the United States outside of the federal government. According to the foundation, the North Central Alabama affiliate of Komen raises over a million dollars a year for research, education, and prevention programs with 75% of that staying in area communities. The rest is pooled with all other Komen affiliates' contributions to fund national research.
