
Patriots Battle To 7-5 Win Over Blue Crabs

Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 7-5 before 5,015 fans at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Sunday afternoon.
The Patriots struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Center fielder Jeff Duncan tripled and left fielder Michael Ryan drew a walk. Third baseman Brandon Larson followed with a three-run home run (1) to give Somerset a 3-0 lead.
Southern Maryland wasted no time, tying up the game with three runs in the top of the second inning. Left fielder Eric Crozier led off with a solo home run to right field (1). Third baseman Patrick Osborn drew a walk and scored on a two-run home run (1) by first baseman Clinton Johnston (1).
The Blue Crabs took the lead with two runs in the top of the third inning. Center fielder Damian Jackson drew a walk and scored on Crozier's second homer (2) of the game to give Southern Maryland a 5-3 lead.
Somerset answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game at 5-5. Ryan struck out and reached first on a wild pitch, Larson singled, and designated hitter Josh Pressley followed with a two-run double to right center field.
The Patriots took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Pressley doubled and was replaced by pinch runner Matt Hagen. First baseman Vito Chiaravalloti then drew a walk. Both runners scored on RBI singles by catcher Travis Anderson and right fielder Elliott Ayala for the 7-5 final.
Patriots reliever Bo Donaldson (1-0) picked up the win with 1.2 scoreless innings pitched. Blue Crabs reliever Derrick DePriest (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs on three hits in 0.2 innings pitched. Bret Prinz earned his first save of the season for Somerset with a scoreless ninth innings pitched.
The 2008 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Monday, May 5th when the Patriots return to Commerce Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 pm game against the Long Island Ducks. The game includes Cinco de Mayo and a Chance To Win $5,555 courtesy of Heineken Premium Light.
